Hillsdale Elementary School works in conjunction with the Sacramento County School Attendance Review Board (SARB) whose responsibility it is to monitor student attendance. Based on the number of unexcused absences and/or tardies, students may be referred to SARB.

Why Attendance Matters
Regular attendance drives academic success, builds strong lifelong habits, and directly impacts district funding. Every day your child is in school helps ensure Twin Rivers USD has the state resources needed to support their education.
How Parents Can Help

Plan Ahead: Ensure your child arrives on time. Late arrivals disrupt classroom learning.

Schedule Smart: Whenever possible, book medical and dental appointments outside of school hours.

Report Absences Promptly: If your child is absent, call our attendance line at (916) 566-1860 or send a written note. Homework can be requested before 10:00 a.m. for absences lasting more than two days.

Notify Us for Long Absences:

Planned Trips (5+ days): Contact the office early to arrange an Independent Study program.

Medical Concerns (10+ days): Keep us informed. Doctor verification is required after 10 days of absence.

Address Concerns Early: If your child frequently avoids school, schedule a doctor's check-up or request a teacher conference to address underlying issues.
Absence Types & Requirements
State law requires schools to track all absences:

Excused: Personal illness, medical/dental appointments, required court appearances, immediate family funerals, or religious observances. (Note: Excessive excused absences will require a doctor’s note.)

Unexcused: Unverified absences, family trips, missing the bus, or non-medical appointments.
